San Isidro is the youngest municipality in the province of Alicante, having separated from Albatera in May 1993. The municipality is located on an old wetland known as El Saladar, where Cardinal Belluga built his Pious Foundations project. In 1939, thanks to a law on the colonisation of semi-marshy areas, a colonisation project was started in what is now San Isidro. This project culminated in 1956 with the delivery to settlers of a town free of marsh risk and connected to the Tajo-Segura Transfer, which allowed the creation of irrigated areas in it. San Isidro is a curious town with its white houses on perfectly uniform and regular streets.
The municipality extends from the southern slope of the Albatera mountain range to the centre of the Orihuela orchard. It connects with the following towns: Albatera, Catral, Granja de Rocamora and Crevillente. The brown hill stands out in the municipal area, just a few metres from the town centre. The municipality also has a palm grove of considerable size.
The Lakes in San Isidro are a paradise to discover with landscapes that combine tranquility and beauty, offering a perfect getaway for those looking to connect with nature. Places like Lake Ausente, Isoba and Ubales await, promising moments of peace and wonder.
