Bigastro is a charming rural and nature town held in the embrace of citrus groves and the huerta, the agricultural land. Wandering the steep and narrow streets of the town is a joy. Before you know it, you’ll be at Plaza de la Constitución, from where you can make your way to Nuestra Señora de Belén Parish Church, a place of worship dating back to the 18th century that is well worth a visit. The three naves are home to fascinating Baroque sculptures, including one depicting San Joaquín.
The Huerto del Cura park is where you can unwind for a while or watch outdoor shows and concerts. Part of the town sits on a hill. Climb up to the highest part to breathe in great views that will get you reaching for your camera: So don’t forget to take it with you. A 20-minute walk will lead you to El Cerro de Bigastro Viewing Point, which is a great activity to enjoy with the kids.
Outside the centre of Bigastro is the La Pedrera Recreational Area, The area has picnic tables and places to have a barbecue or cook your paella. There’s also an outdoor pool and a children’s playpark.
For those who like Hiking we suggest you visit the La Loma Ancha nature area where leafy, shaded areas alternate with semi-arid landscapes home to interesting biodiversity.
